I have been practising Shiatsu since 2005 and Reiki since 2006. I first became interested in Shiatsu in the early 90s when I received some treatments from a trainee Shiatsu Practitioner, which I found to be extremely powerful and of great benefit to me at that time. Over the following years, while continuing my work as a Registered General Nurse, I continued to feel drawn to complementary therapy and a more holistic approach to health and well-being. As an advocate of the Eastern Medicine ethos, training as a Shiatsu practitioner seemed like a natural step and I was lucky to have one of the world’s most established shiatsu schools, The European Shiatsu School, on my doorstep in London. I spent the next 3 years studying Chinese Medicine theories and Shiatsu.
I often noticed whilst giving Shiatsu that my hands would become very hot and, one day, a client receiving treatment asked if I had ever been trained in Reiki (which I hadn’t!). Upon further research, I concluded that being able to offer this ancient method of healing to clients could benefit my Shiatsu treatments, and began a training course. My regular Shiatsu clients loved this addition to their treatment, saying my Shiatsu has been given a ‘turbo boost’ of energy since qualifying to Reiki level 3.
I’m an ex-Nurse with 25 years experience in health care (the majority of which has been working with women in the field of Contraception and Sexual Health, my special interest) and experience working in the fields of General Practice, HIV, Orthopaedics and Mental Health. Combining this experience with my Complementary Practice allows me, I believe, to be a safer and more holistic practitioner and adds another level to the treatments I provide. I’m also proud to be a member of the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT)– the largest and leading professional association for therapists in the UK and Ireland.
I’ve been closely involved with projects delivering Shiatsu and Reiki to adults living with Autism (the Munro Co-operative) and, at a West Sussex homeless hostel where I was working as a nurse, provided residents with treatments to help support them whilst they go through a stressful time in their lives and improve their general well-being. Working with these clients gave me valuable experience delivering treatments to individuals living with a variety of mental health issues, drug and alcohol dependency, ADHD and Aspergers. The results were very positive and it was a hugely rewarding experience.
I am currently a referral Complementary Shiatsu and Reiki Therapist for the Chrysalis Effect Recovery Programme which helps those living with ME, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia.
I work from home in my peaceful therapy room, which is based in the beautiful Sussex village of Ditchling. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any queries. I look forward to hearing from you.
