How I went from being an anxious stress head to delivering Wellbeing Programmes to others with stress and anxiety.

As many of you will know, I have had issues with anxiety off and on since I was a kid. I had a stressful home life growing up and was a nervous child and teenager. I then went on to develop panic attacks in my early 20’s. This coincided with qualifying as a nurse. I dabbled with visualisation techniques and mantra meditation at this time but never stuck with any form of self-care.

I knew that I wanted to do something different from nursing and it was when I started my Shiatsu Practitioner training in my 30’s that I began to look at my diet a bit more, started having shiatsu treatments and attended some Qi Gong classes.  I was still nursing, so was working hard and playing hard in my spare time. So despite my inconsistent efforts of self-care I was still forever stressed, tired and often hung-over.

I went through my 30’s functioning well but with episodes of work related anxiety.  But things started to spiral out of control after a close friend died in my 40’s and I was no longer in control of my anxiety levels at work or home. I had even stopped practising complementary therapies as I wasn’t in the head-space to be treating other people. It was then that I finally left my job as a nurse and set myself up as a full time Complementary Therapist.

Before I could start to see clients again I had to seriously focus on my lifestyle, diet and mental health.

I took up meditation again, Yoga, Qi Gong, started to eat a wholefood diet, reduced my alcohol intake, got enough sleep and started listening to my body a lot more.

I now know that I need to be doing my self-care routine consistently and if I don’t the ugly head of anxiety will appear again. But I am human and struggle to do this at times.

My work as a complementary therapist has evolved over the past years. I am now a Wellbeing Practitioner and specialise in working with people who also live with symptoms of stress and anxiety. I want to share what I have learnt with other people, so they don’t have to spend as many years as I did, stumbling around on their own trying to find answers!

My Wellbeing Programmes

I’ve tried lots of things to support my wellbeing and I now believe that I have found the perfect combination of complementary therapies, diet, lifestyle and self help tools. I no longer suffer from generalised anxiety, but if I do feel anxious, I know exactly what I need to do to get back on track again. And this is what I share with my clients.

Last year I decided to put together 3 Wellbeing Programmes based around Shiatsu, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT/Tapping) and Reiki which focus on calming the nervous system and reducing the stress hormone cortisol in the body.

In addition to these therapies, the programmes offer lifestyle assessments, advice and an introduction to tried and tested stress busting strategies and self help tools. When you sign up to the longer programmes  you also get some freebies too!

I am so pleased to be able to share what I have learnt with other people and it makes me happy to see how my clients grow less stressed and anxious once they take control of their lives again.

If you would like to discuss my programmes to see if they could help you, then please don’t hesitate to contact me. And I would be more than happy to discuss this with you.

I believe that life is a journey, often difficult and sometimes incredibly cruel, but we are well equipped for it if only we tap into our talents and gifts and allow them to blossom. Les Brown
